Any friends in London?

Post by TurnXTop » Sat Dec 11, 2010 10:24 am

I found a guitar I want for sale on Craigslist London. She said she could have it shipped to me (In Canada), however the seller said some things that made me weary of Wire transferring the money to her. The guitar looked like a stock photo and she would not send a new picture of the guitar and a sign saying "Hi *Name*". Anyone in London with the ability to check this out? Of course this would all be done after the holidays.

I'm sorry if this is under the wrong category, I don't know where else to post it. Thank you.

If she won't send a new pic, don't send any money. Simple

By the way, if it's the Takamizawa Sword, I expect it's bullshit that sale :) I've seen that pic before

Yeah it's the takamizawa sword from London... It's bullshit. I figured. May as well post the details so people who google search it wont get scammed. Posted this on the other caparison forum:
http://london.craigslist.co.uk/msg/2039020401.html

I know it's ugly as hell but if you know me, I dig weird guitars. Here's my Predicament:

I've always wanted this guitar and this is a very good price, I contacted the seller and asked if I could purchase this guitar and have it shipped to me in Canada. The seller said yes but a few things she said had my alarm bells ringing:

- The picture of the guitar looks like a stock photo taken from Ebay. When I asked her to take a picture of the guitar with a sign saying "Hi Zeta", she refused.

- I had told her that I was interested in purchasing the guitar after the holidays when the mail would be back in regular circulation (for the guitar's safety) and because I am extremely busy during that time (Aren't we all?). She said she could not wait and needed this transaction done now. Seemed awfully impatient.

- I argued for paypal to confirmed accounts but she would only take a wire transfer. I explained I didn't feel comfortable sending off 2000+ USD and hoping to get my guitar. She suggested an Escrow site (http://www.wfi-group.co.uk" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false; I hope this is okay to post). I researched the site (google) but could find no other information or comments about it. I do not know if this is a reputable site or a scam. I counter-offered to use the escrow service offered by ebay (Escrow.com) and am awaiting a reply.

Am I being too paranoid? A bank to Bank personal wire transfer would be safe right? I mean, you have to have a confirmed Identity right? Is she just eager to get the money to do some Christmas Shopping? Or is it a scam?

As I said, although the guitar looks stupid, I've been after one for a long time. I hate being in a position like this. What precautions can I take? Any friends in London??? Should I walk away?

Thank you and Merry Christmas.
Takes a real bastard to pull this kind of crap on Christmas too.

Check this out

These tips are great for online buying in general, not just ebay.
It always pays to be at least a little suspicious when buying over the internet.

^Thanks. Anyway, there's one on ebay but for much higher (Though it has the "make an offer" option). I still kinda want this guitar so how much do you think would be a reasonable offer? This seller seems reputable and has been selling on Ebay for a long time.

It's a very difficult piece to price for two reasons. Rarity and small captive audience. If two people in that captive audience wanted it at the same time it would sell for way more than it would if only one party was buying. I think you can only really offer what it's worth to you, no one can really take offence at an offer on something like that. No one's trying to lowball to shift it on again for profit. If they are they're touched!

As far as I know, no one else has offered for it and I PM'd him about 3000 and he said he would do it. Problem is, I only have exactly 3000 not enough for the shipping and If i bought it, I'd probably be unable to pay the customs fee :? Sounds pathetic but i'll probably try low balling him for 2500. (an insane guitar for 2500 to be a low ball lol). I'm waiting until after the holidays to figure this out.

That's why I jumped at the London ESP sword. This would litarally be everything I have.

I think it's Jason selling it isn't it? If so, I'm sure he'd hold it for you if you put down $2,500 and paid him the rest when you have the balance and enough for customs and duties. You do not want to leave yourself short if customs comes in over what you're expecting!

Lay-Away Plan: If you’re a little short right now, take advantage of my 30 Day Lay-Away Plan. No matter where on Earth you live, I will hold this item for you. Requirements are simple: 15% Non-Refundable Deposit due immediately and a 10% Lay Away Fee will be added to your purchase. I do everything in my power to work with serious buyers to put a deal together.
My options are offering him for 2500, if refused then putting it on layaway and begging for no fee. Hopefully he doesn't read this site :-D .
