EDWARDS LTS 130 RE. (LES PAUL) TOP..IS IT...

Post by flex5150 » Wed Oct 29, 2008 7:42 am

Just bought this les paul. It's a killer lemon drop relic with Antiquities and I must say the relicing is more authentic than my Rory gallagher strat. But what I want to know is, is the flame top part of the maple cap or a thin veneer. It is definately wood and not a fotoflame as it changes colour in the light when moved about.

Thanks

Would surely be a veneer on an Edwards.

IMO, veneer is still an desirable option, and not to be looked down on. Why? I am a trade qualified boatbuilder, and veneer IS NOT CHEAP !

Not a matter of looking down on. Merely the cost of veneer vs a solid figured top is represented by price, a significant upcharge for a solid figure vs veneer.

It's not a veneer. On my laquer taste model you can see the thickness of the maple cap in the cutaway and around the body under the binding.

Is it a figured top?

Yes you can see the thickness of the maple cap on mine too, but I read somewhere that the Jimmy Page was a figured veneer on a plain maple cap so I wondered whether mine was. It would have to be a wafer thin veneer, when I took the pickup out to see if I could see the join I couldn't. I was unable to see if the top grain followed down the walls of the routs either. ????
Thanks for the feedback I'm enjoying the guitar.
