Metallica - Through the Never

Post by VVolverin3 » Thu Feb 20, 2014 10:28 am

I bought this on blu-ray (2D version, no 3D TV for me) and watched it on the weekend. Has anyone else seen it? Thoughts?

I ... liked it. But it was not what I expected. In one of the behind the scenes videos Lars talks about the film as being unlike anything anyone has ever done - it's certainly unlike any film I've ever seen, not that I'm a movie expert.

Long story short, I was expecting more story (With Trip, the roadie kid), and less gig footage but it was the other way round. It's a 90 minute movie, probably 10 mins of credits, maybe 60 - 70 of the gig and only about 10 - 20 of the "story" (although I guess the gig is part of the story). It's less of a story and more just some cool visuals and a bizarrely cool atmosphere. And the gig footage is awesome, seriously cool.

I would also say it's one of the first blu-rays I've actually been hugely impressed with the picture quality, I guess maybe cause this thing was filmed for IMAX? But the picture looked incredibly sharp and vibrant.

Overall a good, fun watch if you're a Metallica fan I think.

I saw it at the cinema in 3D. Loved the concert footage and sound. Absolutely top shelf production - getting right up to the bands faces with the cameras etc. The movie part I can do without. Is there an option on the Blu to just watch the concert footage only? I'd be happy with that.
Either you're a part of the problem or you're a part of the solution. What's your contribution to life???

^ I don't think so mate. The film pretty well integrated the concert and story stuff, with the music playing over a lot of the story too. The only other stuff on the Blu Ray were a few little behind the scenes featurettes.
