Hmm, your 160001 serial number on that Aurora hints at a special guitar. It most likely means it was the first production model IA guitar made that year. Or maybe, the first Caparison built that year. Pretty cool :D It's probably not one of Mattias' actual owned guitars, unless you bought it used in Sweden?! Who knows...it's a mystery guitar 8)

Cool, thanks Steve! I was wondering if they were using months or years prior to the 7 digit serial numbers. I appreciate the reply! It came from Japan, unfortunately, instead of Sweden. If it was an IA owned/used guitar, I think I'd be buried with it...

Is there any way to find out which number of a particular model caparison you have or can you only find out what number yours is out of the total number of caparisons (all models)?

It might be possible depending on how detailed the factory records are, but I just have a feeling it could be a bit of a pain to check the records that closely.

You can sort of guess the season the guitar was made if it's a newer model. Last year, they made approx 600 guitars. The year before it was a few less.

So, the last 3 digits of serial number can roughly tell you when the guitar was made. It's not deadly accurate, but should get you in the ballpark of production.

Last 3 digits of serial number estimate of production:

1-150 = winter (Beginning of new year)
151-300 = spring
301-450 = summer
451-600 = autumn (Through end of year)

I knew there had to be some sort of reasoning behind the Numbers.

Nice work Steve!
That's some good info man.

This means that my (no longer mine sadly) old Red Sunset TAT was made in '96 and was the 103rd guitar made that year, i think.
Serial Number is 010103.
It was one of the TAT's with the number stamped into the end of the fretboard (see pic below).

And what's the situation if my Caparison's serial is 180020? As you can see on this picture.
It's a Dellinger CA, the black one. It was made in 2003 if I'm right.

By the way how can you tell that if the second and third digits are supposed to describe the year and it's 80, which means that the guitar will be produced in 2075
Can you tell me the meaning of the digits in this case?

Awesome info, cheers!

So, since I happen to know the serial no of my yet-to-be-received Dellinger; "1130708" - this says that it was guitar no 708 of 2008, right? Or could it be an early 2009 since it's numbered in the 700's?
