Neck Woods
Without question, the neck is one of the most important components of a guitar and should be crafted to suit the musician's needs perfectly. Naturally, the neck's stability and performance are of paramount importance. You can choose between the following woods.

Or FSC®-certified neck woods
Framus consider the protection of the environment one of their highest priorities, and it is deeply embedded in the very structure of their company. As Framus' instruments are crafted from beautiful woods using valuable natural resources, they consider it an utmost necessity to allow for sustainable use of the valuable natural asset that is their woods. As a result, Framus have made the decision to move towards using FSC®-certified woods exclusively in the future, step by step.

The following FSC®-certified woods are available in the Framus Custom Shop.

Neck Profile
All Framus 6-string guitars come standard with a flat, oval C-shaped neck profile. Due to the construction of the AK 1974, AK 1974S, AZ 10 and Mayfield models, the "C shape" of their necks differs slightly from the standard neck profile. The necks of Framus' 7 and 8 string models all come with a flat D shape. The Framus Custom Shop also offers an extra neck profile, namely the "Fat Neck" Option with a round C shape.

Fingerboard Material
When it comes to building a first-class instrument, one hundredth of a millimeter can often be a deciding factor as to whether or not the result meets the demands of a musician. A vital point in this regard is the fingerboard. It is doubtlessly the most important part of an instrument, as it is where musicians use their hands to create their own, unique tone. As a result, choosing the ideal fingerboard wood becomes all the more important. The Framus Custom Shop offers a wide variety of fingerboard woods for you to choose from to create your very own dream guitar: Wenge, Rosewood, Rio Rosewood (including CITES certificate), Maple, Flamed Maple, Bird's Eye Maple, Tigerstripe Ebony and Snakewood.

Scalloped Fingerboard
For the Diablo and Panthera models Framus also offer scalloped fingerboards - either the whole fingerboard or from the 12th to the last fret. In plain English, this means that the fretboard is slightly scooped out between each fret. As a result, the player's fingers no longer touch the fingerboard. Only dots are available for inlays for this option.

Finish
There are a vast array of finishes available from the Framus Custom Shop. Below you'll find several sets of finish ranges. Finishes available come from several ranges; Natural Oil Finish, Coloured Oil Finish, Natural High Polish, Stain High Polish, Sunbursts, Blackbursts, Satin Finish, Solid High Polish, Sandblasted Oil Finish (for Ash bodies), Rusty Finish, Airbrushed Graphics, Chrome Finish, Metallic Finish or Natural Satin.

Choose from only ONE of the following ranges for your preferred colour option.
Select a finish from only one of the ranges below:

Natural Oil Finishes

Decades ago Framus recognized the signs of the times and introduced the Natural Oil Finish, and if a certain surface treatment can be linked to a manufacturer, then it has to be Natural Oil Finish. Once applied, the oil finish, which consists of natural substances exclusively, protects the wood from dust and moisture without preventing it from breathing. Consequently the sound character of the instrument becomes open and silky-warm. Moreover, the natural beauty of the wood is not only preserved visually, but haptically as well. The musician can feel the texture of the body, and the neck feels very comfortable - a stunning and very tactile experience.

NATURAL OIL FINISH

Coloured Oil Finishes

Tastes differ and Framus have always adapted themselves to this fact. The development of the Coloured Oil Finish is a perfect example for this attitude. The name stands for a gentle and ultra-thin UV-lacquering, that does not affect the sound negatively while letting you see and feel the texture of the wood. It is just like a colored variant of our Natural Oil Finish. The hues were exclusively developed for Framus. With the help of special effect boosters, the character of the wood is emphasized with intensive performance, UV stability and without bleaching. The "Easy to Clean" effect reduces furbishing damages like micro scratches caused by cleaning and maintenance.

COLOURED OIL FINISH

Natural High Polish Finishes

High gloss finishes are applied through the innovative UV technology specially designed for Framus. The hereby achieved depth effect and brilliancy is much superior to conventional lacquers and offers a phenomenal look. High Polish finishes from Framus are solvent-free and neither cause CO2 emissions nor consumption of fossil fuels during the curing process. The slight layer thickness leads to minimal tension which benefits the sound of the instrument. The "Easy to Clean" effect ensures hassle-free maintenance and helps void micro scratches and holograms. Fans of the combination of high gloss and natural look love Framus' Natural Stain Finish. It makes the whole beauty of the wood visible and the coating preserves it permanently.

NATURAL HIGH POLISH

Stain High Polish Finishes

Another of the high gloss finishes applied through the innovative UV technology specially designed for Framus.

STAIN HIGH POLISH

Sunburst Finishes

Framus' burst coatings are transparent and with the exception of black, they do not conceal the wood. Care is taken that the generated gradients are smooth and provide a balanced and highly aesthetic look. All burst hues perfectly harmonize with the stain hues.

SUNBURST

Blackburst Finishes

Framus' burst coatings are transparent and with the exception of black, they do not conceal the wood. Care is taken that the generated gradients are smooth and provide a balanced and highly aesthetic look. All burst hues perfectly harmonize with the stain hues.

BLACKBURST

Satin Finishes

The sophisticated UV satin lacquer with colour and contrast intensification offers highest transparency, brilliance and penetration. The sound of the instrument benefits from the low coating tension achieved through the innovative UV hardening technology which still gives the finish a higher resistance against mechanical and chemical influences compared to conventional lacquers. Also the ecological aspects are taken into account, without thermal drying, no CO2 and only minimal amounts of solvents are emitted. The highly condensed surface makes for the "Easy to Clean" effect and reduces furbishing damages like micro scratches caused by cleaning and maintenance.

SATIN FINISH

Solid High Polish Finishes

Solid High Polish is a covering of high gloss coating. The brilliance of the colors and the impressive chemical and physical properties are in no way inferior to the afore-mentioned High Polish variants.

SOLID HIGH POLISH

Sandblasted Oil Finishes

An oil finish most commonly applied to ash bodied Framus custom models.

SANDBLASTED OIL

Rusty Finishes

"Succumb to the lust for rust" - combining high-tech craftsmanship and passion, the Rusty Finish is a typical Warwick and Framus innovation. A very thin iron coating is applied to the wood of the body and oxidized through a sophisticated and controlled procedure creating actual rust rather than an imitation. Even magnets are able to stick to the surface because of this unique finish. As a special highlight, the pick-ups are coated and parts of the hardware are artificially aged. The result is a fascinating mix of extraordinary looks, stunning acoustical properties, and a unique feeling. Typically Framus; anything but normal.

RUSTY FINISH

Graphics Finishes

Framus' Custom Shop offers two different options that will allow you to design your very own dream guitar. If you choose an airbrush finish, Ingo Körner, European airbrush champion, will adorn your instrument with beautiful graphics. Furthermore, if you wish, Framus can finish your guitar with a graphic of your own design - anything is possible!

AIRBURSHED GRAPHICS

Chrome Finishes

This look is simply stunning. In spite of the yet experimental character of this coating, a lot of musicians have already chosen this flamboyant finish. Chrome Tone is a special varnish, whereby the wood is actually chromed - even coloured if requested. The innovative technology behind is matchless and outstanding like so many other things with Warwick and Framus. As with all other finishes a high UV stability and hence a maximum resistance against bleaching is ensured. The sensitive chrome layer is protected by a highly resistant protective lacquer. Nevertheless, attention is recommended during maintenance. The Chrome Tone finish is a cutting-edge technology, which is still being developed. Despite all diligence, minimal dust inclusions cannot be fully excluded and Framus assume no liability for any future adverse effects.

CHROME FINISH

Metallic Finishes

A classic Metallic Gold finish, first popularised on guitars in the 1950s

METALLIC FINISH

Natural Satin Finishes

Bridge Options
The bridge's impact on both the playability and tone of a stringed instrument is extremely pronounced. After all, it not only allows the player to adjust the string action - i.e. the distance between the strings and the fingerboard - but its construction also influences the vibration transfer into the body wood to a significant degree. The Framus Custom Shop offers a wide variety of fixed bridges by famous manufacturers such as Framus, Tone Pros and Hipshot.

Furthermore, they also offer a number of different tremolo systems. Tremolo systems are bridge constructions fitted with a tremolo arm. The tremolo arm in turn allows the player to manipulate the pitch of the notes played on the fly using their picking hand, which makes impressive effects and sounds possible. Tremolo systems Framus chooses include those by manufacturers such as Bigsby, Floyd Rose, Hipshot, Wilkinson and Kahler. These manufacturers systems offer outstanding craftsmanship and are built from highest quality materials only.
