Line 6 HD-Pro vs Fractal AXE FX Ultra - Clips!! :D

Talk about the rest of the rig - amps, effects, valves, leads, wireless set-ups, racks, anything that brings out the best in your axes.

Line 6 HD-Pro vs Fractal AXE FX Ultra - Clips!! :D

Postby DwangTwang » Sat Nov 05, 2011 7:07 pm

Hey peoples,

Just got a new Line 6 HD Pro rack unit and was wondering if anyone with an AXE-FX AND / OR anyone with any of the modeled amps wants to help me do a shoot out on between em??

I was thinking of starting with the Recto pre!??!

My thought was to run all 3 direct to tape ( or more so hard disk :D ) with no cab impulses - or in the case of the Actual Recto from either the Slave out or FX send - All with controls set at noon, except gain.

Then I'll run em through a Redwires Cab and also the power section of my Rockerverb with a Miced Vintage 30.

Maybe make a Poll and see how many of you tone freaks can tell whats what??

Anyone interested in something to this affect??

Let me know -

Edit;

Got this finished up today -

Let us know what you guys think!!

Sounds like fun. I've got an Axe Fx Ultra and am happy to provide some clips. Just let me know what to send.

Sweet dude!!

I reckon just throw out a simple riff to a click and let me know tuning tempo etc.
Perhaps do 2 takes of the one riff through a Recto sim with all noon controls and gain to taste
Metal style preferable?? ( make it pretty simple cause I SUCK! :D )

Maybe do 1 with an AXE FX Recto Cab with 57 and one with no impulse at all -

I'll then re - play / record the same riff through my HD PRO with the same settings - 1 internal cab 1 no cab
And I'll get a couple comparisons going ala Ola Englund style-

What ya reckon??

I found the Axe to be WAY cleaner and more defined - and at the same settings had more gain the then HD.
Plus the HD Pro's Cab Sims seem to add lacking Hi-end frequencies?? Every clip that the HD runs through the Redwirez externally sounds REALLY dull!??!

Hey that all sounds cool! Not much to separate them really, not anything that a bit of tuning wouldn't help. Tone is all subjective.

If anything I'd say the Axe has better high end definition in those clips. Again just a tweaking thing maybe.

How do you find the Line 6 "feels"? Does it feel and behave like a real amp? Cos that's where the AxeFx really sold me.

The Line 6 feels better through a power amp and cabs rather than directly recorded thru the usb interface

The usb interface seems to be a little noisy/distorted
(only option I had to record it with ATM cause I'm still waiting on my RME RAYDAT card)

The HD also has options to emulates power amp distortion / sag / bias / ac power current etc -
I didnt even touch that stuff, just left it at 50%

Overall i think the Line 6 gear fills a gap between low cost digitech type modelers and obviously the AXE FX lines.
And if they release a firmware update to use 3rd party IR's it'd be WIN all round

At $700 brand new there's not to much to complain about!! :D
