My current rig

Talk about the rest of the rig - amps, effects, valves, leads, wireless set-ups, racks, anything that brings out the best in your axes.

My current rig

Postby noob_pwn » Tue Jun 07, 2011 4:34 pm

I realised today when I got my old mackie replaced (it was one of the defective first run) that I'm still yet to post pics of my newish rig on the forum so I thought I'd share with you. I decided to take this route when we started tracking our album in the studio which is when i realised how little of the full potential of the axefx I was making use of.

Sorry for the shitty quality pics, they were shot off my phone because i don't have a real camera.

from top to bottom:
ART power conditioner
AxeFx Ultra
Line6 G90 wireless
Mackie HD1531 powered monitor
Mission SP-1 expression pedal
Voodoo Labs GCP
Boss TU-2

This Full-range rig has so many benefits for me and really gets the most out of the axefx. It even feels & sounds more realistic to play through because the axefx is modelling the poweramp & cab & mic response rather than just a preamp which is all it was doing with my 2/90/2
I can't fathom how amazing it sounds, how clear it is and how loud it is (1000w-1800w Class D 3-way poweramp). There are so many benefits to this setup I can't believe i didn't do it earlier. I got turned off by some other active speakers and FR setups because they didn't really do it for me. The mackie moves about as much air as a 4x12 so its just like having a cab behind you on stage.

Pretty much I am just using the mackie for monitoring, I send 2 signals from the axefx. One has a lowpass on it and a bit of EQ (to make it sound more like an un-mic'd cab), this goes to the mackie. The other goes straight to the desk so i don't have to worry about micing anymore. This is awesome, I don't have to worry about room reflections, spillover, venue mics etc. It's not hard to realise that your end-signal tone is very sensitive to all of the above and mic placement. Because I have control over all of these variables I get exactly what I want coming out of the front and it's virtually foolproof. When my old mackie failed live, I just got the sound engineer to crank my foldback for me and the audience couldn't even tell.

Any plans on replacing Ultra with the Axe FX 2?
you can call me Phil if you want to

and the knot in the back adds caractor...i even have a proper Shamalama Ding Dong custom here with 4 knots on the front that will also blow any other custom guitar away for the purpose its been made for..

Sweet rig mate.

I've found my Atomic powered wedge lacks a bit of power for most live applications, that Mackie looks like it'll do the job!

Yeah I tried one of the atomic cabs as I was thinking of buying two and they just weren't loud enough, they did sound great. The 1531 moves way more air and is significantly louder than any 100w tube amp I've used and it's totally linear and clean as the volume increases too.

The Mackie looks like a giant computer tower or a high tech mini fridge. Did you not find the axe-fx tuner to be suitable?

The axefx tuner is great, I just have my board at the front of the stage and much prefer my tuner to be on the floor
